Giving Presents At Christmas

This could be an odd question and perhaps it could be. We all have our customs and the majority of people know when to present Christmas gifts, (after lunch on Christmas day, right?) until you find someone with whom you share customs differ.

My family’s home was where I grew up and we would find our Christmas stockings at the foot of the mattress at the time of Christmas (a tradition that continued for many years into adulthood) They were gifts from Santa and were opened instantly. After that, you could pick a present from the Christmas tree to open on Christmas morning (usually picked very carefully) and the rest could be put away until after lunch.

If we visited family and friends in the days before Christmas, we were able to open gifts that received there and then however, for grandparents or any other gifts given in the absence of us, they were put under the tree and unveiled on Christmas day.

Simple!

My husband’s family however, unveiled all their presents Christmas morning . They even had the little distinction of the stockings being opened prior to breakfast, and presents following.

There are many families who permit one present to be opened on Christmas Eve, whether it’s the Christmas Eve gift box or festive pyjamas, or even the gift of someone who you won’t be able to see until the day.

Some people put off gift-giving till the 12th of Christmas (or even distribute it over 12 days) and other traditions include presents given beginning on the 5th day of December, when children take their shoes or boots out to St Nicholas.

While some families accept gifts from others upon receiving them, received, others are quite specific about storing them until the big day.

What is the earliest time to give out gifts?

No matter when you decide to present gifts to your family, there are bound to be some people you present gifts to who you do not see on Christmas morning.

You may give gifts to teachers at school. do you want to leave it until the final day of the term or the final week?

Do you present gifts to your colleagues during the office Christmas celebration or before heading home to celebrate the holiday season? For the secret Santa presents it is commonplace to have a date provided at least a month in advance.

Is it too late to give an item if you’re certain you’ll be able to see them in person prior to on the day of celebration. It’s best to wait until the day after Christmas if you’re hoping to meet your loved ones between the Christmas season and the beginning of the new year?
