Marrakesh is a city that tourists either love or dislike. It’s also among those places where you have to alter your expectations and prepare yourself for an experience unlike any other. I am a huge fan of Marrakesh.
In actual fact I’ve returned to Marrakesh two times since my first visit , and I’m still feeling like I’m required to go back to explore more.
Learn my top tips and what you should do prior to your trip for Marrakesh so that you don’t make a mistake. I hope that you fall in love with Marrakech just like I have. Even if you’re only traveling to Marrakech for an evening or weekend.
Marrakesh Tourism Tips What You Need to Know not to be disappointed
1. Don’t trust any forecasts for weather.
Be prepared for extremely hot and cold conditions.
Prior to arriving in Marrakesh I double-checked the forecast for weather and it was that it was always between 18 and 25 degrees. I’m happy I wore an extra coat when I left home as it turned out it was chilly in Marrakesh.
It was funny, but my phone’s temperature was still 20 degrees. I’m pretty sure it was not higher than seven Celsius (44 F).
2. Make sure you are prepared to be lost no Whatever
In Marrakesh, you must not bother with maps. Maps aren’t useful Marrakesh, particularly in the Medina where the streets reminded me similar to Italian ones, though much more crowded and complex.
It’s not just Google Maps. Google Maps gets lost all the time, so you should try to remember the stroll back to your hotel or riad.
My suggestion: If you prefer to stay within the Medina you may want to book a riad next to the gate. If you do get lost, you’ll have the ability to seek out what the gates’ name is. Additionally, you won’t have to carry your luggage distance from your taxi because there are no vehicles allowed in the Medina.
3. Marrakesh is safe for female Travelers, if You Follow precautions
I have read many female blogs where women wrote about the way they were hounded by locals. I’ve not experienced any such harassment at all, not even on the first visit or on my second visits.

In reality I’ve found Mexico to be more irritating and having lived in Mexico it is possible to conclude that it’s not so bad.
The people of Morocco were all very helpful to me. There were a few vendors were a bit annoying however I was quick to reply with them in French to tell them that they must behave themselves and that I’m not purchasing anything, and they retreated.
4. Keep in mind that a word can mean A Plenty in Marrakech
When it comes to the locals and their hospitality There is one thing that can change significantly in Marrakesh and that is the meaning of the”promise. In the main square, Djemaa El Fna, there are a variety of vendors selling dried fruits and nuts souvenirs, etc.
When I went to buy some almonds and dates with a woman at a hostel, the gentleman offered to lower the price when we promised to come back the following day.
Initially, I didn’t believe it, but I returned the next day. I got literally 4 times the amount of dates as well as nuts at about 20 percent less than the initial cost.
The person I talked to told me that many people will lie to get the best price, but when he finds something positive honesty in honest people, and honest, he’s willing to pay them all they can.
I’m afraid that for every kind person in Marrakesh there’s a scam artist who is trying to trick tourists. If someone in the street is trying to speak to them in English and then tell you in a flash that the street is closed, they will drag you to a place where they can sell something from their store.
5. Prepare to argue with Taxi Drivers
Unfortunately, there are numerous taxi scams that occur in Marrakesh. The most popular areas where scammers are targeted can be found at airports. it will cost around 50-70 dirhams for a trip to the medina. However, taxi drivers will not take you for less than 350.
I’m actually not surprised when by this, since I’ve witnessed many tourists agreeing to this price.
If you do not contest the price, you will not be able pay a regular price. Arguments did not work for me. Then I cut the price down to 100 dirhams, which was still a lot however, I was at least not completely fooled.
It is possible to prefer to book your taxi in advance from the airport if do not want to haggle after a long trip. This is a reliable and cost-effective choice.
6. You can book luxurious accommodations at a Low Cost
There are many luxury riads and hostels located in Marrakesh which are all affordable. There’s no reason to shell out an exorbitant amount of money on trendy places such as La Mamounia (unless you really desire to stay there, but remember that you can make reservations for their spa without). Actually, I think Royal Mansour is better quality.
On my first trip I stayed in Riad Dar Anika , which was higher than I would have expected for at this rate.
My second time visiting my spouse, I was at a stunning riad for only $100 per night. Riad Palais Sebban. The place was certainly unique Take a look at the pool below.
I also went to Riad Be that was stunning and I can attest for it, too.
7. Be prepared for chaos in Jamaa el Fna Square
Jamaa el Fna is the most important place of Marrakesh and it’s a complete nightmare. There are people who will try to get you to purchase things and demand payment to take photos of them.
They may use snakes, monkeys and anything else they can locate onto your shoulders. Yes, they hurt these animals.
However, don’t let this deter you from taking advantage of the square. I loved the food stalls that were there and would definitely recommend them to anyone visiting. It’s certainly touristy, but it’s not an attraction for tourists.
8. There are two different Sahara Trips . Don’t Be fooled by vendors
On my first trip to Morocco I was wronged with a tour company. There wasn’t much information about Morocco in the past however, today you’re fortunate that the research has been completed for you.
It is possible that you could choose two or three days into the desert starting from Marrakesh and they’re both the same, only one of them is longer. It’s not the same trip and take you to different destinations!
9. If You’re not able to find the time to go on an Desert Trip – Do a Balloon Tour
If you do not have the time to go on a day desert adventure and climb across the Atlas Mountain, you can enjoy a taste of the mountains by taking a hot balloon.
If you have time, you should consider the balloon tour since it will give you a totally different experience.
