Joe Wicks has told fans he is cutting back his PE classes to three days a week because he needs “a bit of a rest”.
Wicks, also known as “The Body Coach”, has become a lockdown sensation in leading daily exercise sessions aimed at children from his living room-turned-studio.
But the fitness star has now said this week will be his last full week before he scales back to Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9am.
“I just need a bit of a rest really, a little bit of a break,” he told fans on Monday as he began the 13th full week of PE classes.
In a follow-up Instagram post, the 33-year-old said he’d had “so much fun” and found it “truly mind blowing” that his YouTube videos had racked up nearly 70 million views.
He wrote: “It’s been so much fun and I’ve laughed so much. I’ve been on a mission to engage children in fitness for 4 years now and have travelled all over the UK visiting schools.
“I feel very proud that I’ve been able to bring so many people together during lockdown.”
Back in March, when Wicks was about to embark on the project, he told Sky News his workouts were aimed to “really let out some steam” and get children feeling “positive and a bit more optimistic”.
He added: “It’s all about feeling energised, motivated and positive and we need that more than ever right now.”
Wicks is donating the money raised from his online lessons to the NHS.
Last month he revealed he’d undergone hand surgery after an infection made his hand throb “like liquid hot magma”.
