The High Atlas Mountains

The Region

The number has a few peaks more than 3,000 m plus has North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal (4,167m), that is in the Toubkal National Park.

The High Atlas provides many choices for Atlas trekking tours though it’s just as a great spot to unwind and take pleasure in the spectacular mountain scenery and atmosphere.

Higher areas are snow covered in winter, with peaks remaining topped with snow through into the spring. The mountains are typically seen from Marrakech from the Taroudant or north from the south.

The High Atlas range runs for 700 km from the Atlantic coast near Essaouira and Agadir eastwards, past Marrakech and beyond. The razor-sharp peaks of its, deep valleys, and substantial plateaus produce a remarkable landscape. The numerous beautiful, remote Berber villages present a simple escape from cities or towns for guests seeking to trek or even unwind in stunning mountain scenery.

Weather

The perfect moment to go to the region is between November and March. On the flip side, from December until February one may appreciate crisp sunny days and extremely chilly nights; make sure you take warm clothes for the nights. The bigger reaches of the High Atlas are an enjoyable escape from the high temperature in summer time, since the accommodation we give lies between 800 and 1,800 m above sea level. It’s tough to provide helpful data, since altitudes vary rising approximately more than 4,000 m along with weather conditions are unpredictable, as in virtually any mountain environment.

The bigger areas of the High Atlas Mountains get snow during winter; however, it’s fairly uncommon for roads being blocked. Valleys might be prone to flash flooding from rainfall and in spring (from snowmelt).
